Description: Written in an engaging style, this book uses a lively case-based format to help prepare readers who encounter patients with neurological conditions. The accompanying website includes a number of additional cases for learning. The first edition was published in 2009.
Purpose: According to the authors, the purpose is to expand readers' ability to reason through clinical neurology cases. They seek to integrate basic science and clinical information to ward off "neurophobia" (as they term it) and make both neuroscience and neurology relevant and applicable. The authors exceed this goal by integrating the neuroscience behind disease with real-world cases.
Audience: The intended audience is non-neurologists who are in the learning stages (medical students, residents) as well as practitioners who treat patients with neurological conditions (physiatrists, family medicine specialists, internal medicine specialists, pediatricians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nurses).. The authors include a neuroanatomist, adult neurologist, and pediatric neurologist who teach a combined neurology/neuroscience course to second-year medical students.
Features: With a problem-based learning format, this book covers a wide scope of neuroscience and neurology.
