The Devil Whispers Temptations, a poem collection from new writer John Carlson.
The topics of depression, love, and mental health compound into a self-analysis of the emotions we all face in our early twenties. The collections of poems written over the course of a year slowly show a deterioration in mental health, replacing hopeful love poems with nihilistic introspection. Passages written on days of clarity quickly dissolve into feeding the Devil's whispers in our heads, leading us down a path of self-destruction and disdain for social expectations and extroverted relationships. Carlson expresses these emotions in their rawest form confronting the temptations of suicide and love while using writing as his means to display the struggles of his life.
