Overview

Streamlined ID: A Practical Guide to Instructional Design provides both a textbook for instructional design courses and a professional reference for practicing instructional designers. The book opens with a description of the essentials of instructional design using an enhanced version of the ADDIE model, and all other chapters elaborate on the process through the vehicle of a “big ID idea.”

Each chapter opens with a scenario that includes a challenge for the reader related to the content of that chapter. The revised version of Bloom’s taxonomy will be featured as a design method in the text and to exemplify its utility as an ID tool, each chapter will explicitly state what the reader should remember and understand from the chapter contents. The text will also provide exercises and suggested assignments that enable the reader to apply, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize content to create their own instructional designs. Finally, every chapter ends with a “teaser” challenge that relates to the content of the following chapter, and the reader will be provided with references and resources for “Going Deeper” into the topics they want more information on.
