This volume will provide the chiropractic student and practicing ch iropractor with information on exercise and aerobic conditioning, inju ry prevention, injury management, and general issues related to contem porary sports chiropractic care. A new, previously unpublished chapter will address how to establish a sports chiropractic practice.

Description: This book is a discussion of sports-related topics as they apply to modern chiropractic practice. Sports chiropractic is the fastest growing specialty area within the profession, and the interest in this area has led to a good deal of literature. This book helps to bring some of that information to the forefront.
Purpose: The stated purpose is to examine injury prevention and conditioning, injury care, and the unique considerations of establishing a sports focus in practice.
Audience: This will be of interest to both practicing chiropractors and chiropractic students.
Features: In the three sections of this book the editors examine exercise and conditioning programs, management and care procedures, and four special considerations (sports chiropractic at a chiropractic college, the female athlete, the child athlete, and establishing a sports chiropractic practice). These presentations are supported by the use of several algorithms.
Assessment: This book has some interesting material, but the information seems to be more academic in presentation than clinical. There are already good texts on sports chiropractic, including a rather comprehensive one by Hyde and Gengenbach, Conservative Management of Sports Injuries (Williams & Wilkins 1997). In that text a sports specific approach is used; it is not used here. I suspect that the former is more appealing to clinical chiropractors looking for quality information on how to treat their athletes. I did enjoy the material presented here, but it has rather limited scope.
