Description: This multi-author text provides an in-depth, comprehensive review of anxiety disorders in children. It is the first edition of the book.
Purpose: The purpose of the book is primarily to bridge the gap between psychiatry and psychology and integrate it for the benefit of the patient. It is a spirited attempt to provide a holistic opinion of anxiety disorders in children and guide the clinician towards evidence-based practice.
Audience: The solid information in this book will serve as a guide to clinicians, health care professionals, social workers and therapists and also for patients if they are interested in knowing about their disorders.
Features: This book has been organized logically in three parts, as the chapters seem to flow and continuity is never lost. The first part integrates psychopathology, assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders. Part II focuses on DSM IV and how anxiety disorders are represented. It also specifies all the evidence-based treatment procedures. Part III focuses on research that has been done and also stresses the importance of further work needed in this area.
Assessment: Ollendick and March have gathered a top-notch team of both psychiatrists and psychologists to construct an up-to-date overview of development, psychopathology and treatment of anxiety disorders. All the chapters present effective summaries of available empirical data and plausible theories where data is lacking. I would recommend this very current text, effectively blending psychiatric and psychological principles, as a must read for all fellows in child and adolescent psychiatry.
