This book provides a review of important topics shared between nephrology and oncology.
Purpose: The focus is on clinical scenarios in which patients with cancer also have complications with kidney disease. Cancer patients with kidney disease have a worse prognosis with higher mortality and morbidity. The emergence of onconephrology as a field acknowledges the importance of understanding and treating the complex renal problems that arise in cancer patients.
Audience: Intended for providers in the fields of nephrology and oncology, from trainees to veterans, the book has useful information for a wide range of readers.
Features: The 17 chapters are written by nephrologists and oncologists involved in the care of cancer patients with kidney disease. Some of the topics are better known among nephrologists than others. Onconephrology encompasses both the hematological and solid cancers and their treatment-related complications that affect the kidney. From electrolyte disorders and tumor lysis syndrome to acute paraneoplastic glomerular diseases, radiation nephropathy, and others, this book brings together a wide range of clinical information.
