She is from New York City, and from Guyana, and her works are intended to inspire, offer intrigue and to bring the good women "bread" as she has to say about her writings. This was beautifully written and touched on so many important topics about race, class and gender in the building of nationhood. It's always cool to see black women and marginalised peoples take on forms that scream whiteness, especially the epic-like ode. It does important corrective work like canon re-building and challenging. Sometimes however, the form felt constraining.

A poem and song that reveals the beauty/meaning of its prose as you move through it. I couldn't help but feel that was intentional as the author, clearly finds truth in innocence.
