The fact that nilpotent groups are close to being commutative means that it is possible to apply linear methods to their study. In this volume, based on a special course given by the author at Novosibirsk University, Russia in 1988-1990, linear methods in the theory of nilpotent groups are applied to the study of automorphisms of nilpotent groups. Assumes acquaintance with the basic notions of linear algebra, group theory, and ring theory at the level of the first 2-3 years of a university course in higher algebra. Annotation c.
