Description: This comprehensive book on melanoma covers pathology as well as the rationale for medical and surgical management.
Purpose: The purpose is to create a comprehensive reference for clinicians involved in the care of patients with melanoma. This is a worthy objective to cover a complex topic in one book, and the authors have done a good job.
Audience: The audience includes surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists, according to the authors. However, it can also be valuable to medical students and primary care providers interested in melanoma care.
Features: The book covers melanoma starting with epidemiology and moving through diagnosis and medical and surgical management. It is thorough in the discussion of the literature that underlies practice recommendations and presents it in a very accessible fashion. It also is unique in the depth of the explanations. However, the images are difficult to see and sometimes it is hard to appreciate what is being depicted.
Assessment: This is a high quality reference with thorough discussions of melanoma and the care of melanoma patients. I would recommend it to anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the care of patients with melanoma.
