Description: This excellent maternity and women's health nursing book uses a concise, up-to-date, evidence-based approach. The clinical reasoning case studies and cultural considerations laced throughout the text are excellent for student self-evaluation. This updates the 2012 edition.
Purpose: The authors note in the preface that the book is designed to provide students with accurate and up-to-date information to develop skills and knowledge. The book does an excellent job focusing the student on the information beyond facts and skills.
Audience: The intended audience is students in registered nursing programs. The book is written in a way that it may be incorporated into an associate program, but it is geared more toward a bachelor's program. The authors are highly respected in the field of women's health.
Features: This book covers all areas of women's health. Students will learn wellness and illness care for the emerging young woman, the childbearing woman, and the aging woman. The cultural care is innovative and needed in our ever-changing U.S. demographic. The material is concise and works well with the online learning activities. This book incorporates excellent pictures that accurately depict very personal childbearing experiences.
Assessment: This is the best book in the women's health community for the education of registered nurses. I use it for educating nurses at the University of North Florida. It is up to date and accurate. The evidence-based material is outstanding, especially compared to other books. I used the previous two editions and am now using this edition. Each edition is an update and justifies replacement of the previous one.
