Description: This book focuses on the interpretation of research and implementation of research findings in evidence-based medical practice. Although it has online resources, they were not available at the time of review.
Purpose: According to the editors, the intent is "to provide a tool that can be the first step in understanding research, and perhaps, the first step in a research career." With an emphasis on evidence-based practice, this is a worthy goal, which the book achieves.
Audience: The stated audience is students and practitioners in healthcare professions, although the book appears more focused on physicians. Two editors are/were educators in a physician assistant program, and the 21 contributors represent various healthcare disciplines as clinicians, educators, and researchers.
Features: The book is divided into four sections: getting started, design, analysis, and writing and interpretation. Chapters begin with an overview and objectives. Figures and exhibits throughout clarify and enhance the content.
Assessment: This is a basic book about research and medical literature, similar to others in this area. It appears to be written primarily for physicians and physician assistants.
