Description: I was struck by the ambitious title of this book, and I was pleasantly surprised at how the book achieved what the title promises. The color photographs enable novices to make reasonably accurate diagnoses or appropriate clinical differential diagnoses based on perusing the photographs alone. As a clinically oriented book, it discusses management and important practical points for each common entity. This is an update of a 2004 edition.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a visual diagnostic guide to various dermatological conditions for physicians.
Audience: The audience is primary care physicians, medical students, dermatology residents, and other healthcare professionals.
Features: The book is replete with practical advice and it is easy to read a chapter in a few minutes, making it handy for use while a patient is in the office. Each chapter highlights the main principles of clinical presentation, pathogenesis, treatment, clues to diagnosis, and differential diagnosis. The print is large and easy to read. There are many photographs of a given condition, providing readers with a visual range of how lesions may present. This edition has more illustrations as well as up-to-date treatments and drugs.
Assessment: This is a nice clinical dermatology book that addresses a broad range of common dermatological conditions. The hints are actually useful and the book is pleasant to read.
