In this Gothic melodrama, a widowed nobleman marries again. Soon after the honeymoon, he and his bride return and find that he has been accused of raping a village woman. The angry townsfolk tell him that following the rape, he was seen running from the scene pursued by a ghostly visage of his dead wife, astride a horse, screaming that he killed her. Though he swears his innocence, things look doubtful as his father is found murdered. All this causes his bride to go insane with fear. She tries to kill him and things look bleak until he finds out who is behind all the strange occurrences.
