Overview

The fourth film version of Zane Grey's novel, this western follows the exploits of a prim Eastern woman who heads West and ends up in the arms of a vulgar, alcoholic ranch hand. Fortunately it only takes her less than 67 minutes to clean him up and turn his life around.

Editorial Reviews

This is an unusually good and serious Western, especially given its short running time; the violence is presented seriously, and the action encompasses issues such as prejudice, racism, and personal responsibility, all material that was usually neglected in oaters of the era. The seriousness of the script is amplified by the excellent performances, not only by Victor Jory and Jo Ann Sayers in the two leading roles, but also by the supporting players, with Noah Beery Jr. doing very well in the role of a Mexican peasant who has some surprising personal qualities within the context of a genre movie of this type from this period. Director Lesley Selander also brought a surprisingly deft touch to the material, which could not have been budgeted very high in either money or shooting time.
