This disc nets two SpongeBob Squarepants collections previously released on VHS: Deep Sea Sillies and Bikini Bottom Bash. Viewers will soak up several classics from SpongeBob's first season. "Tea at the Treedom" was actually the series pilot; it introduces Sandy, the land squirrel whom SpongeBob befriends, although a visit to her underwater air-filled glass home could prove fatal. Another series landmark is "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy," featuring the voices of Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway as SpongeBob's revered TV crime fighters (now retired). In "The Paper," what is garbage to curmudgeonly neighbor Squidward is "a golden treasure trove of fun" for SpongeBob. In "Hall Monitor" and "Valentine's Day," SpongeBob can never do anything easily as he polices Bikini Bottom and tries to arrange a Valentine's Day surprise for Patrick. Do you want a krabby patty with that? In "Just One Bite," Squidward refuses to try Bikini Bottom's favorite fast food, and in "Born Again Krabs," a foul krabby patty lands the notorious cheapskate Mr. Krabs in the hospital, where he makes a vow to the Flying Dutchman to be more generous. In the SpongeBob equivalent of a very special episode, Patchy the Pirate hosts a riotous "House Party" from his Encino, California, home. In the accompanying SpongeBob cartoon, SpongeBob micro-manages a party down to the last finger-puppet show, but the fun really starts when he is locked out. You will also go ape for "I Had an Accident," in which a recuperating SpongeBob refuses to leave the safety of his pineapple abode for fear of getting hurt, and even an attack on Sandy and Patrick by a gorilla -- yes, gorilla -- may not change his mind. SpongeBob fans will soak up this bountiful collection of must-sea cartoons.
