Description: This is a concise book about the current paradigms in perioperative management of comorbid conditions in liver transplant recipients. It provides an excellent starting point for each disease, with ample references for further in-depth review.
Purpose: The purpose is to review the natural history of the diseases that lead to liver transplantation, as well as the treatment and survival of liver transplant patients. This is a worthy objective, since most books end at the transplant, but this continues where those leave off.
Audience: The intended audience is students, residents, and practitioners.
Features: The book reviews what happens post-transplant to the comorbid diseases that led to the original transplant including HBV, HCV, cancer, etc. The discussion of hepatitis B is particularly well done. The book uses tables to summarize the literature for each topic.
Assessment: This book is unique, since most don't review the post-transplant management of these patients.
