About the Author

ARIANE NEUBER is a European Diplomate and European and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology. She provides dermatology referral services for Chiltern Referral Services and Active Vetcare Referrals, and is Past President and current Scientific Coordinator of the British Veterinary Dermatology Study Group (BVDSG). Ariane was the last Chief Examiner for the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology in the former certificate system.

TIM NUTTALL is an RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology and Head of Dermatology at The University of Edinburgh Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. He has over 20 years' experience of clinical dermatology and teaching, has written numerous books, book chapters and papers, and lectures extensively in the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and Asia.

Description: This book discusses a variety of diagnostic techniques in veterinary dermatology, both common and rare. These techniques are described in a wide variety of other books, but this one combines all of these diagnostics into one concise publication.
Purpose: The purpose is to offer clear, step-by-step guidance on how to perform tests and interpret their results. The descriptions are clear and easy to follow, whether you are highly experienced or a novice.
Audience: The authors direct the book at general practitioners, veterinary technicians and nurses, and even veterinary students, an appropriate audience. The authors are both veterinary dermatologists.
Features: The book presents an introduction to the tests, which include discussions of the equipment commonly needed to perform these diagnostics. It's helpful that it covers some tests and techniques that are new, such as dermoscopy. Appealing tables present differentials for locations and breed predilections. While there are no references, there are some recommended additional readings on select topics. Unfortunately, many of the color pictures, particularly the microscopic images are of poor quality, blurry or fuzzy.
Assessment: Overall, this is a good quality book. There are other books with this information, but this one summarizes the diagnostics in one place. For readers not experienced with veterinary dermatology diagnostics, this would be a great resource. However, if you are looking for a book with high quality cytology images, I would not recommend purchasing this one.
