Description: This is a good softcover primer for beginning dermatologists. It covers the basic principles of dermatology in a simple manner and briefly explains various diseases a practitioner is most likely to encounter. Color photographs accompany the text and cartoon type drawings illustrate pathology, arthropods, and the idea behind immunofluorescence for detecting abnormal antibodies in the skin.
Purpose: The purpose is to help beginning dermatology students enter the world of dermatology.
Audience: The audience is medical students on their dermatology rotation.
Features: Blue and yellow shaded tables compare similar disease entities and drug reactions. Each entity is discussed in a prescribed format: pathogenesis, clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, and management.
Assessment: This is a reasonably priced book for medical students. The material is not overwhelming in the way it is presented and the majority of the common skin lesions and conditions are covered in an easy to understand format.
