Description: This highly regarded atlas is the definitive work of normal variants in plain film radiology. The previous edition was published in 2007.
Purpose: The purpose is to present normal variants in plain film radiology that simulate disease, so that the likelihood of false-positive results is reduced. The emphasis is on skeletal radiology. Previous editions have been recognized as the most authoritative reference in the field, and this edition should be no different.
Audience: It is intended for radiologists in practice, either subspecialists or generalists, and radiology residents also will find this to be a valuable resource.
Features: The book presents in atlas form many normal variants that can be confused with abnormalities. The print version has been updated with new cases and now exclusively deals with plain film skeletal variants. An online version includes cases that were deleted from earlier editions that were either considered duplicate cases or extremely rare. The online version also includes soft tissue variants. The range of cases is quite comprehensive.
Assessment: This is an outstanding atlas that is probably the top reference of its kind in the field. The quality of the cases is excellent. Previous editions are present in most departments, and I am sure this one will be, too. This update has been revised sufficiently to justify the new edition.
