This is a serial collection of monographs on controversial or new important developments in immunology. Whenever an immunologist has a pressing need to "get educated" on a specific topic, the hope is fervent that the area of interest has been selected for publication in a recent Advances. If it has, the hunt has ended, because here is the source that provides all the new and old data, new perspectives, conflicting questions, and current and comprehensive citation lists! It would appeal to both basic and clinical immunologists. The editors have been careful to select writers for each topic that are experts in the field of interest and write with clarity. This is an essential component in all immunology libraries.

Description: This 62nd volume of Advances in Immunology, a serial characterized by critically selected, in-depth reviews of current immunologic topics of interest and exhaustive bibliographies, maintains the standard of excellence of its predecessors.
Purpose: This is a rich, one-stop source for the interested immunologist seeking every relevant fact, past and present, on almost always highly pertinent topics implicitly endorsed by the editors as impact areas in the field.
Audience: It will be of interest primarily for immunologists and occasionally for clinical immunologists.
Features: These editors have traditionally provided license and freedom for authors to speculate on the good and the bad, and again this edition is no exception. There is an especially interesting chapter on tumor antigens wherein the authors make some delightful and not so subtle jabs at the theoretical circular nitpicking that more than a few tumor immunologists fall into with alarming frequency.
Assessment: As always, Advances in Immunology is intense reading for the subsets of immunologists interested in the 6 to 10 topics chosen for each edition. If the reader has an interest in the topics chosen, this is the source to go to for minute details and arcane literature citations.
