Description: This graduate-level book describes the steps in conducting a research study, including dissemination and establishment of a research program.
Purpose: The purpose is to arm beginning researchers with the basic information they need to plan and conduct a research study. The author acknowledges that this book will not make the researcher an expert, hence, she provides additional annotated resources.
Audience: The target audience is students, practicing nurses, and nursing faculty wanting to learn how to conduct a research study. The author is an active researcher.
Features: The book covers the main points of conducting research, with annotated references for additional information. A brief introduction to research begins the book, which is then divided into sections on planning, design, implementation, analysis and interpretation, and reporting, which describe each step of the research process. The final section also covers preparing proposals, evidence-based practice, and developing a program of research. The book addresses both quantitative and qualitative research.
Assessment: This should be quite useful for the target audience. It focuses on conducting a research study rather than learning to read and critique research, which appropriately would be the purview of an undergraduate program.
