Harper Lee won the Pulitzer Prize for her seminal novel To Kill a Mockingbird, about racial injustice in the South in the 1930s. Published in 1960, this widely loved book, still thought of as one of the most important books in American history, has been translated into more than 40 languages. Go Set a Watchman, her other novel, was published in 2015. Her many honors include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which she was awarded in 2007. She was born in Monroeville, Alabama, in 1926, and died there in 2016.
