Widely credited with reviving and improving upon the thriller genre, Eric Ambler (1909-1998) is the author of many suspense, action, and adventure books, including A Coffin for Dimitrios and The Light of Day, both of which were adapted into movies. He was also a successful screenwriter, and he wrote the screenplays for The Cruel Sea and the American detective series Checkmate.
