Overview

V dějinách Evropy trvalo středověk (nebo středověké období) od 5. do 15. století. Začalo to pádem západní římské říše a spojilo se s renesancí a věkem objevu. Středověk je středním obdobím tří tradičních divizí západních dějin: klasického starověku, středověku a moderního období. V tomto dlouhém období tisíc let existovaly všechny druhy událostí a procesů, které se od sebe navzájem velmi lišily, časově a geograficky diferencované, reagující jak na vzájemné vlivy s jinými civilizacemi a prostory, tak na vnitřní dynamiku. Mnoho z nich mělo velkou projekci do budoucnosti, mimo jiné ty, které položily základy rozvoje následné evropské expanze a rozvoje sociálních agentů, kteří vyvinuli převážně venkovskou společnost, ale byli svědky zrození začínajícího městského života. a buržoazie, která nakonec vyvine kapitalismus.
