About the Author

Maria Bohuslawsky (born Maria Fiala; April 3rd, 1975) is an American author, teacher, and mother of 3. After teaching 5th grade for 8 years, she took an extended maternity leave to raise her 3 boys. She expected to go back to teaching when her life lead her down another path. Her 2nd son was diagnosed with Asperger's in 2008. She had her concerns and began educating herself. Asperger's was at the higher end of the Autism Spectrum which gave her hope. But when her 3rd son was diagnosed with Autism in 2011, and they stated that it was low level Autism, her hope diminished. She now began to plan for the inevitable, that she would not return to teaching, but rather spend the rest of her life fighting for the rights of her children and making with absolute certainty that they live a happy and healthy life and are given the best education possible. Today, her life has become all about her family. Her oldest son Alex, who illustrated the book, has been such a great big brother and inspiration to many. He is your typical 12 year old who loves to ride his bike&scooter, swim, snowboard, and play his Xbox. He is Maria's mini-me! She is very active in the PTA, as she believes a happy school is a well run school, which in turn gives her children the best learning environment possible. She dreams of the day when bullying and indifference are replaced by tolerance and acceptance no matter what your idiosyncracies are. Having been married to her high-school sweetheart for almost 15 years, they are determined to give their children the best of everything and live the American dream…what ever version that may be!
