Your Reward Is In Heaven
The VHF radio crackles, fades—finally the message. Michael Nordstrom Senior is unconscious on the deck of the Catherine A. The vessel, one of seven operated by Nordstrom Fisheries in Down East Maine, is an hour away from medical care.
Junior's life has suddenly become a nightmare. Just days before, his failed design for exterior elevators on the forty story Columbia Plaza makes the Atlanta Post and leads broadcast media. The concept is aesthetically appealing, but an engineering nightmare—the fix expected to reach into the millions. Mike Junior's once promising architectural career is in peril.
He leaves Atlanta to be at his father's side. The private charter flight is arranged by his wife, exclusive heir to the Knight-Ryder South fortune. He's surprised by the gesture. Cynthia is rumored to be actively seeking a companion with a pedigree closer to her own.
Senior is too far from tiny Deer Harbor and Saint Bonaventure Hospital to reverse the effects of a massive hemorrhagic stroke. He dies leaving his son as CEO of Nordstrom Fisheries and co-director of a newly formed charitable trust. The appointment comes as a surprise. Gwen, his sister and CFO, is the more logical choice. Mike soon finds the reason for his ascendency—a dark secret in Gwen's past.
Faced with a flagging architectural career, and failed marriage, Mike has a new challenge—guiding a seven-figure maritime enterprise with a duplicitous CFO.
He finds support in Grace Reed, a former classmate who joined the convent after graduation. She serves as the hospital's Pastoral Associate living outside her order under special dispensation. Grace is an anomaly, uncertain whether to embrace or reject the monastic life.
Her role in the charitable trust and attachment to Mike's daughter and niece draw the couple closer. Mike is a willing partner, anxious to advance their relationship, but Grace is conflicted. Her life has been one of singular devotion. Now a man, a mortal, stands between she and her God.
Grace makes a choice—one which changes both of their lives forever.

About the Author

Gerald Thompson is a graduate of the University of Washington. He spent thirteen years as an executive with American Telephone and Telegraph in Seattle and New York City, and served three years on Governor Dixy Lee Ray’s cabinet as Secretary of the Department of Social and Health Services, the state’s largest agency. There followed two years as a General Management Consultant and twenty-five years as owner of a Puget Sound marina. Gerald and his wife, Wendy, have spent most of their life within sight of the Pacific Ocean, its bays and tributaries. They are now steps from the Atlantic in Jupiter, Florida, a move that brought them closer to their daughter.
This is Thompson’s second novel and represents a significant departure from the first, Dakota Willows, A Story of Volga Deutsch Immigration.
