Overview

A child often feels confused and scared as he witnesses the physical or mental decline of a grandparent. Although Your Ema Loves You deals specifically with ALS, a progressive physical ailment, it could apply to any disease. It teaches the young one that, though he or she may witness these changes, the basic personality of, and love generated by, a grandparent remains powerful and alive.

About the Author

Eloise Lovelace is a retired special education teacher with ALS, an incurable disease that wreaks havoc on the body but leaves the intellect untouched. She resides in the coastal mountain community of Boulder Creek, California, where she enjoys the beauty of nature with her husband and two retrievers. She has two daughters and three young grandchildren. Her desire is to leave these children, and children everywhere, with the message that, though a grandmother's body may not always work for her, her mind will remain alive and her love will never wane.

I might have a hard time holding something. Then you can show me how strong you are.

I might get tired on our walks and tell you my legs have turned to rubber. Then you have to wait for me.
