WORLD WAR II TRANSPORT PILOT
Volume One of the Pacific War Series, "Transport Pilot," is an adventure story of a U.S. Marine Corps aviator during the 1930s and the outbreak of World War II. Corporal Harrold Mueller , USMC, is selected for flight training and reports to Pensacola as a cadet. The early Pacific War campaign against Japan provides the background to dramatize the training, courage, and leadership of "Rats" Mueller and his crew. Harry is a natural pilot and a hero, but no saint. The story includes the sixteen-day battle for Wake Island in December 1941. It is a tribute to the brave Marines, Navy, Army, and civilian personnel who withstood repeated bombing attacks from Japanese forces. The courageous Marine defense force under the astute leadership of Major James P.S. Devereux, USMC, and Commander Winfield S. Cunningham, USN, fought fiercely with every weapon they had. They exacted a high price in Japanese ships, planes, and casualties before surrendering on 23 December. "Remember Wake" became a unifying catchphrase for the United States and our military during a grim series of setbacks in early 1942. The long range and cargo carrying capabilities of a new military transport airfcraft, the C-46 "Commando," are also featured.

About the Author

Jim "Lawman" Law has published four historical fiction books about the Pacific War during World War II. The first is about a Marine Corps transport pilot and his crew. The second features the training and early war action of a destroyer officer. The third covers the construction and manning of PT Boats. Volume Four, "World War II Submarine Commander," covers submarine crew training before Pearl Harbor and long-range patrols after America entered the war. Nearly all of Law's characters are fictional but information about their training, equipment, and challenges are based on extensive research. Each book has a fair amount of technical content that engineering minds will applaud. For the ladies, there are some love and sex themes that are engaging but pretty tame by today's standards. Also, there is very little swearing. Commander Law has written the books so his late teenage grandchildren can read them without embarrassment. Each book provides little-known information about WWII and the warfare communities that fought in the Pacific against Japan. They are intended to make history interesting and the author uses his extensive knowledge of naval tactics to heighten that interest. CDR Law joined the Navy in 1959 as a high school senior and had a twenty-four-year career followed by twenty-three years as a defense contractor on Navy projects. He completed several aircraft carrier cruises in the Pacific as an airborne Combat Information Center Officer and completed advanced training as a Tactical Action Officer. Two of his seven cruises were during the Vietnam War flying off of the USS Coral Sea. The Lawman was privileged to fly in the Hawkeye E-2A/B/C while providing air control and other missions. He recently published his first murder mystery, "Deader Than a Doornail."
