Overview

Are Mormons Christians? When some outsiders insist that Mormons are not Christians, it is deeply offensive to Latter-day Saints. Yet when Latter-day Saints insist that they are Christians, some of those same outsiders resent it bitterly. Why? We believe that theological and doctrinal differences between religious denominations have nothing to do with whether or not a person is a Christian. In our writings, we explain what it means to be a real Christian to real Mormons. We describe our faith, our promises, our practices, and our theology in words of plainness. We happily acknowledge the light and goodness of all groups of people who search for truth, meaning, and lasting happiness. We especially feel a close kinship with all those who believe in Jesus Christ. We invite you to discover for yourself the nature of Mormon Christianity from those whose lives it most strongly affects: every-day, regular members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About the Author

As have many young members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, both Aaron and James Powner graduated from four years of LDS Seminary studies, attended the LDS Institute of Religion, and served missions for the Church. Since then they have endeavored to do what is right and good with their lives, albeit as imperfectly as any other member of the human family. They have loving families and good friendships in their communities. Aaron and James attended various universities in pursuit of higher education, gathering a small collection of degrees and training experiences in various disciplines including: communications, criminal justice, education administration, English, medicine, public administration, public relations, science, and teaching. Both Aaron and James chose careers as professional educators in public schools; Aaron a science teacher and James an English teacher. They both feel passionately the need to maintain wonder and curiosity about life and nature. There are such volumes of knowledge, enriching experiences, and deep wisdom to be gained from life and so little time given us. Neither of these brothers are men of great means or influence. They are both simple, faithful, every-day members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
