About the Author

Earnestine Smart is the author of Words of Inspiration from the Power of My Pen, which is a gift from the Lord.

I grew up in a small town outside of Leesburg, Florida among four sisters and four brothers. As a young girl, I developed a love of writing poems.

In 1981, while working as a domestic engineer, the words of inspiration flowed heavily on my mind for "A Highway Called Holiness." I immediately wrote on a brown piece of paper until it could be rewritten; sometimes it goes and comes. I claim nothing of my own, but I'm greatly thankful to be able to receive something and put it on paper so that someone else can read it and get happiness from it.

As a caregiver of health care, these poems have touched many hearts. As this book is being published, I'm in hope that it will bring continued joy.

While now living in Sarasota, Florida, I can still share this inspiration within to others of a distance as well as family and friends. While working in a flower garden or walking on the beach or even in the contentment of my home, I can write about something that intrigues me.

Four years before 9/11, the inspiration of "America the Beautiful, Sweet Liberty" was stirred while looking across the Manatee River at the flag-as its banner was waving in the wind. The results of what seems to have been a premonition. I sensed her crying in the wind as she called to me. I'm her true friend; I'm a soldier going to war. These are the gifts that stir the heart and set the mind to wonder.
