"Ariana was proud of her school’s library. It was one of the biggest in the country among public universities, and she had opted to volunteer there for the past 2 years as an assistant to the head librarian. She helped organize the books that students left out of order, took some classes on tours through the rows and rows of shelves, and taught all of her friends how to abide by the Dewy Decimal System. Ariana was a slender young girl with a small frame and sleek blonde hair that she kept pulled back in a French braid against her neck. She didn’t wear glasses like the typical description of a bookworm would suggest; she prided herself in being able to read each and every word in any sized print without help.
Today started out as a day like any other. She was at the checkout counter, going through files on the computer when a male student came up to her.
“Hey, can you help me find a book?” he asked. Ariana looked up to see a tall boy with chestnut brown hair that waved at the tips. He had green eyes that were boring earnestly into her, as if there was a sense of urgency behind his request.
“Absolutely. What’re you looking for?” Ariana asked.
“The Dirtiest Library on Earth,” the boy said. Ariana frowned slightly, wondering if this was a joke.
“Who’s it by?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” he answered. Ariana looked up at his face, studying it for any hint of a smile, or any other sign that he might have been joking. Nothing. Just those eager eyes. She sighed and typed the title into the computer, wondering if something would actually come up. When it did, she frowned at the number, trying to decipher where in the library such a strange title would find itself.
