At precisely five o’clock, Meagan headed to the elevator. Some of the regular riders were already there, and she saw Tad walk on just she got there.
She stepped into the elevator, her heart racing. She was standing right next to Tad, and she tried not to look at him.
One by one, the others got off at their floors. At last there was just Tad, Meagan and the gray-haired man.
At the third floor, the elevator stopped. The doors slid open, and the gray-haired man got off.
The doors closed, and Meagan could feel the blood rushing in her veins. She knew she had to stop the elevator between floors; otherwise, the doors would simply open as the elevator stopped on the second floor.
She waited, not wanting to breathe and not daring to look at Tad. The display flashed “2.” A moment later, Meagan pressed the button.
The only alarm to go off was the one between her legs.
