Overview

An inviting volume of prose, 18 poems in all, about love and loss in the modern world. Woman Looking Down is like a meander through city streets and sidewalks- a little scratchy, pungent-- but true, upright, and fortifying in the face of gravity--the kind that sticks us to the earth. Romantic, bold, it takes a strong look at love and loss and articulates with an offbeat seductiveness what we already know instinctively, that the complicated navigations of living are simply the best roads of life. A good read for every lover of poetry.

Diane Sciullo Smalley was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and educated at the University of Pittsburgh where she studied literature and writing, and the University of Dayton School of Law where she earned a Juris Doctorate. She lives by default in Denver, Colorado, where she secretly plots acquisition of a sunny, beach side California bungalow. True story.

About the Author

Diane Sciullo Smalley was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and educated at the University of Pittsburgh where she studied literature and writing, and the University of Dayton School of Law, where she earned a juris doctorate. She found her love of poetry at an early age through Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken, which she considers to be one of the most perfect poems ever written. She believes "the gift outright" of all poetry is music to the heart.
