Overview

Two basset hound puppies love running around in their own backyard with their ears flapping and flying in the breeze. This image inspired their mother, Violet Dolittle, to name them Wilbur and Orville in honor of those other flying brothers. Being typical basset hounds, they decide to leave the safety of their own home and explore the rest of the world. Their boundless energy and curiosity carry them through many yards and encounters with new creatures. Soon, however, they realize they have gone too far. They are lost! They need help to find their way back home. Can the reader help them? This is a story of exploration, adventure, and active engagement of the reader to reach a happy ending and the realization that "there's no place like home."

About the Author

Patricia Foy is a retired high school teacher who still hasn't figured out what she wants to be when she grows up. Her life's journey includes teaching Civics, English, Spanish, and ballet to aspiring dancers and football players. She enjoys donning a Mother Goose or Cat in the Hat costume to read to children because they enlighten her with their wisdom and honesty. She and her husband have three children and seven grandchildren. Her family is ever hopeful that she will find her niche when she finally grows up.

Larry Vacek, as a child, always enjoyed pretending to be a cowboy or some comic book superhero, documenting his world in doodles and sketches. His fantasy world was interrupted by a stint in the Army followed by 30 some years as a manager in the manufacturing industry. Upon retirement, he was quick to revert to his childhood, much to the delight of his eight grandkids.
