Who is Your Captain: The Revolutionary and Civil War lives of 5 connected families
I am sure you will enjoy the unique perspectives on a typical American family history starting with the revolutionary war and continuing to modern times. This book presents the civil war from the viewpoints of 7 soldiers from my family, some who fought for the North and others from the South. Some fought for elite units and others for untrained militia in many major battles in both the east and the west. It then traces their descendants and how they impacted and were impacted by various world and personal events and how they may have felt. I have spent more than 10 years working with my mother and other relatives to collect a full and confirmed family tree with critical connection verified by the Texas Genealogical Society and more than a year researching, studying, visiting and photographing the battlefields where my ancestors fought. It is easy to judge people in the past by today's standards, but rather than judging, this book will offer a framework which traces their lives and offers a glimpse into what the world was like for them at the time. This book is intensely personal, told from my own perspective, and if readers find this first person view a bit jarring, I apologize in advance as my purpose is simply to present the facts as best I could determine them and let each reader make their own judgment and conclusions
