Overview

White Picket Monsters tells the story of a young girl growing up in a house of horrors – a house brimming with shocking family secrets of manipulation, sexual exploitation, and extreme violence. Her parents, while being praised for their humanitarianism, lived a life that was far from ordinary in the house behind the white picket fence.
Bev's story is one of survival, resilience, and strength. It is a story of rising above extreme pain to overcome obstacles and achieve great success.

About the Author

Bev is an award-winning advocate for child abuse prevention. She was placed in foster care and adopted at a young age, and at age 17 escaped a life of severe physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, by jumping through a bedroom window and running away from home.

Originally from Georgetown, a rural community in Newfoundland and Labrador, Bev has been living in St. John's, NL for almost 20 years. She is the founder of the Miles for Smiles Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the support, awareness, and prevention of child abuse. Through this organization, she has facilitated awareness events throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as Nova Scotia and Maine, USA.

Bev’s lobbying efforts have been successful in having April proclaimed Child Abuse Prevention Month. She has also partnered with education stakeholders to introduce a child sexual abuse prevention program in schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The program is expected to start in September 2021.

Bev has inspired others through her advocacy work in Newfoundland and Labrador. She facilitates a support group for survivors of all forms of child abuse and works with businesses and all levels of government to raise awareness while fighting for change. Bev is a trained facilitator and teaches child sexual abuse prevention.

Bev regularly speaks at homeless shelters, colleges, government, and privately organized events. Bev is a wife, mother, motivational speaker, writer, entrepreneur, and has a great passion for child abuse prevention.
