Overview
White People: The Great White Hoax
The following series of interviews is the first in a series of interviews with an African-American passing for white, which he claimed has been a family tradition spanning nearly 300 years. Because he did not want to disclose his own identity nor that of his family, he is addressed as "Mr. X." Throughout these interviews, Mr. X shares the "insider information" he and his family acquired about white people while passing as one of their own over the past three centuries. The interviewer was identified as Miss Ann Jones (hereafter referred to as "Ms. J").
All of the interviews between Mr. X and Ms. J appear to have taken place sometime between 2010 and 2012. However, I did not learn about them until January of 2012. The following is a brief account of how that came about.
Late one night back in the early 1970s – at about 2:30 a.m., as I recall – while walking home from a local bar, I was approached by several very big men, forced into a car, blindfolded, and driven to a secluded wooded area. Once there, the blindfold was taken off and I was taken into a cabin that seemed more like a mansion. Once inside, I was led to a small room where the only light was provided by a fireplace. I was directed to a comfortable-looking chair. After being seated, my ankles and wrists were secured by handcuffs built into the chair, then the door to the room was shut and locked. A minute or two later, a man's voice greeted me by name. I could not see him because he was behind me, and even if he had been facing me just a few feet away, it was so dark I still wouldn't have been able to make out his appearance. That was the beginning of many meetings and interviews with a person whose identity remains unknown to me to this day.
Over forty years later, at what I thought would be our next "meeting" or "interview," I was informed that Mr. X had passed away. It was then that I was also told about the interviews between Mr. X and Ms. J. I was given instructions from Mr. X to do the following: First, I would continue to be picked up randomly and brought to the same location. On each of these occasions, I was to transcribe the audio recordings of all the interviews between Mr. X and Ms. J. I was provided a laptop computer with a flash drive to do the transcribing.
Once completed, I was instructed to publish the series of interviews between Mr. X and Ms. J. Furthermore, the first interview was to be aired on the Internet by no later than Fall 2012. As it turned out, Mr. X had also had his first interview with Ms. Jones filmed, with their images shielded and their voices distorted to protect their identities. I was told that a copy of this video would be given to me at some point in the future, but I have yet to receive it. Consequently, as further instructed, I prepared a dramatized re-enactment of that first interview between Mr. X and Ms. J.
Finally, once the interviews between Mr. X and Ms. J are published, my instructions are to publish the interviews between Mr. X and myself. However, for now, only the interviews between Mr. X and Ms. J will be made available. About the Author
Harold Price is an African-American born and raised in Pottsville, county seat of the once-thriving coal-mining Schuylkill County in east central Pennsylvania. After one semester in college on a football scholarship, Harold withdrew. He would spend the next four years being trained at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, and working as a Russian translator for the Army Security Agency (ASA), an above top secret military branch of the National Security Agency (NSA). Subsequent to his four years with ASA/NSA, Harold returned to college and earned a B.A. in Russian from Penn State, which included advanced studies at the University of Leningrad in the former Soviet Union. His undergraduate program also included further studies in Spanish, German, linguistics, and religious studies (academic theology/social ethics). In addition, during that time and later, Harold continued working as a freelance translator of Russian, Spanish, and German for such agencies as the Defense Intelligence Agency. Following a year of study in social ethics in Penn State’s Graduate School of Religious Studies, Harold worked for two years developing a community relations program for a bank in Philadelphia, Pa. Soon after that, he went on to teach Spanish, English as a Second Language, Russian, and German for the next 26 years at Valley Forge Military Academy and College (VFMAC), a prestigious private boarding school outside of Philadelphia. During his last six years at VFMAC, Harold also served as the academy’s foreign language department chair in addition to his teaching duties at both the middle/high school and college. Throughout that period of his life, he continued to pursue his formal education further; that included two master’s degrees (religious studies/social ethics and Spanish) from Temple University as well as his Pennsylvania K-12 teaching certification in Russian, Spanish, and German from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Harold and his wife, Robin, now live in Orwigsburg, Pa., several miles south of his hometown, Pottsville. After having traveled most of the world, Harold has returned to the area of his roots. His family has resided in Schuylkill County, Pa. for nearly 200 years, having first arrived via the Underground Railroad. Presently, Harold continuing preparation for Volumes II and III of “White People: The Great White Hoax,” which is based on 45 years of research and study of American racism.
