Heavy cranes, satellite tracking and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles, have long loomed large in my life. I was born and raised on the edge of the Peak District, in a suburb of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, overlooking roaring steelworks and gloriously wild and beautiful moorland.
As a child I managed to ensure that education had little or no effect upon me, and so had to read and learn like crazy once I discovered that I really ought to have been paying attention.
My first novel, The Whispering Bell, set in the Peak District of circa 650 AD, was spotted by my publisher on the writers' website YouWriteOn.com. My second, Tuppenny Hat Detective, is very different, being a nostalgic detective story set in Sheffield in 1951.
I made my living selling heavy engineering services, travelling extensively,in Europe, USA, the Far East, and Australasia.
I adore my long suffering wife, love writing, cabinet making, the British countryside and its wildlife, my dog Wulfi, real ale in old pubs, and football. My wife and I live on the Somerset Wiltshire border a few miles south of the city of Bath.
