• Newton's Yarn Country Dazzle-2 fine (sport) weight rayon/wool/metallic yarn (16 oz/1100 yds/ 454g per skein):

1 skein each taupe iridescent and ecru

• Size G/6/4mm crochet hook

• Tapestry needle

• Sewing needle

• Matching sewing thread

• Small snaps: 2

• Stitch markers


Gauge

Gauge is not important for this project.


Pattern Notes

Shrug can be made to desired length. It can also be worn without snaps as a shawl.

Work in continuous rounds; do not turn or join unless otherwise stated.

Mark first stitch of round.

Work in back loops unless otherwise stated.

Each repeat is increased by adding 1 single crochet and chain-1 as indicated.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise indicated.

Body

Rnd 1 (RS): With taupe, make slip ring(see illustration), 12 dc in ring, do not join(see Pattern Notes), pull tail to close ring, place marker in first st (see Pattern Notes). (12 dc)

Rnd 2: 2 dc in sp between each dc around. (24 dc)

Rnd 3: Working rem rnds in back lps(see Stitch Guide and Pattern Notes), [sc in each of next 3 sts, ch 3, sk next st] around, mark last ch-3 sp between sc groups.

Rnd 4: [Sk next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next ch sp, ch 4] around. (4 sc between each of 6 ch sps)

Rnd 5: [Sk next sc, sc in each sc around to next ch sp, 2 sc in ch sp, ch 5] around. (5 sc between each of 6 ch sps)

Rnds 44–69: Continue in pattern, increasing 1 sc and 1 ch in each rep around. At end of last rnd, fasten off taupe. (69 sc between each ch-60 sp at end of last rnd)

Rnd 70: Sk first st, join ecru with sc in next st, sc in each st around to next ch sp, 2 sc in ch sp, ch 61, [sk next sc, sc in each sc around to next ch sp, 2 sc in ch sp, ch 61] around. Fasten off ecru. (70 sc between each of 6 ch sps)

Rnd 71: Join taupe with sc in next st, sc in each st and in each ch around, working 2 sc in each tip, turn.

Rnd 72: With WS facing, sl st in each st around, join(see Pattern Notes) in first sl st. Fasten off.


Finishing

Wet piece. Place on large flat towel and roll up to squeeze out excess water.

With WS facing, place piece on dry towel. Stretch each pinwheel panel and shape tips until they lie flat. Pin and let dry.

If desired, sew snaps to opposite tips of pinwheel panels to form Shrug.
