Where the Lilies Cry
A work of historical fact and fiction, blended together to tell the story of James Letart Jr. who, in real life was named Cahiktodo by his Shawnee mother. His father was a French trader who was one of the first to venture down the Ohio River to trade with the Indians of the Ohio Country. His trading post was established near present day Letart, West Virginia. Across the river, near the falls, once stood a village of Shawnee and Delaware Indians called Quenolapay Ohtenatit or Little Buck Town. It was at this village that Cahiktodo rose to prominence and married a Delaware maiden named Cheokoplis, or Bluebird.
This is the story of their lives in that peaceful little village, before the coming of the white settlers and through the tumultuous events that destroyed their way of life and turned their world upside down.
