About the Author

Sonya McKinzie is an inspiring figure whose life story embodies resilience and empowerment. Born and raised in Brunswick, Georgia, Sonya is a devoted single mother to her daughter, McKinzie Alise Baker, who she considers her greatest blessing. A survivor of domestic violence, suicide, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and anxiety, Sonya stands as a beacon of hope for those facing similar challenges, proving that the cycle of abuse can be broken.

In pursuit of a fresh start, Sonya relocated to Marietta, Georgia, in 2003, determined to reclaim her strength and independence from an abusive relationship. Her journey led her to embrace education as a pathway to personal and professional growth. She has achieved an impressive array of academic credentials, including an Associate’s degree in Business Administration, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and a Master’s degree in Human Services Counseling, with minors in Addictions & Recovery, and a second Master’s degree in Communications, with a focus on Public Relations.. Additionally, Sonya has earned certifications in Victims Advocacy, Corporate Leadership and Management, Call Center Management, Six Sigma (Green Belt), and Human Resources. She is due to receive an honorary doctorate in Humanitarism in June 2024.

As the Founder and Executive Director of the Women of Virtue Transitional Foundation, established in February 2016, Sonya has dedicated herself to raising awareness about domestic violence and abuse. Her organization operates with a mission to empower survivors and victims, fostering a community that supports healing and growth. Sonya’s efforts extend beyond her foundation; she also honors the elderly through the Elderly Outreach in Brunswick, GA, a tribute to her grandmother, where she and her family provide support to the senior community.

Sonya McKinzie’s story is one of transformation from victim to victor, and she continues to be a pillar of certainty and encouragement for many. Her dedication to education, advocacy, and community service makes her a remarkable role model and an agent of positive change.
