When We Found Home
Becoming a family will take patience, humor, a little bit of wine and a whole lot of love

After life knocked Delaney Holbrook sideways, she didn't get down-she got busy. She went back to school, determined to reinvent herself. She even swore off men in suits. But then one particular man in one very fine suit proves too tempting to resist-Malcolm Carlesso, CEO of a family-owned food company. Malcolm's life has been complicated by the arrival of two half sisters he's never met...and isn't sure he wants around. How can Delaney trust a man who keeps his own sisters at such a distance?

Alone in the world, Callie Smith never expected to find a family. Suddenly she's living in a house the size of a small country with her stuffy and aloof new brother and streetwise sister, wondering whether this place-and these people-will ever feel like home. Just as she's beginning to get settled, a new opportunity presents itself, daring her to dream of more...until her past threatens to take it all away.

Friends brought together by chance, Delaney and Callie will soon discover the closest families are bonded by choice-not by blood-in this uplifting story from the consistently unputdownable Susan Mallery.

JULY 2018 - AudioFile

Narrator Tanya Eby brings to life the story of three half-siblings who suddenly find themselves living together. Wealthy Malcolm discovers he has two sisters, Callie, a young woman who has a tough life, and Keira, a 20-year-old. He brings them both home to live with him and their grandfather. Eby masterfully gives voice to the three. Callie grew up in Texas, and Eby gives her a slight hint of a Southern accent. She gives Keira a youthful timbre. The young woman is streetwise but unsure of her new situation, and the listener can easily empathize with her. Malcolm is at a loss as to how to cope with his new siblings, and Eby deftly brings out his confusion. S.B. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine

Mallery (Sisters like Us) spins a heartwarming but shallow story about people searching for security and love. In present-day Seattle, Delaney Holbrook is trying to move on after losing her fiancé and quitting her job. She turns to Malcolm Carlesso, who’s running his family’s company and has his own life upheaval in the form of two recently discovered younger sisters, Kiera and Callie. As Malcolm tries to raise Kiera, he’s dealing with Callie’s past as a convicted felon and her budding romance with his best friend, Santiago Trejo. To top it all off, someone is stealing from his company. Though the characters manage to figure out how to be family, there’s so much going on that the issues of the relationships are only surface level. Despite the complexities, this book is sweet and will appeal to readers who enjoy the intricacies of family drama. Agent: Annelise Robey, Jane Rotrosen Agency. (July)
