Overview

It is a fault of this book that there is not more of it. How easily the author, Mrs. Laura E. Richards, might have added chapter to chapter of her delightful reminiscences, although she has slightly enlarged the work since its first appearance in the pages of St. Nickolas! Nothing could be more captivating than these pictures of domestic life in the home known by the delectable name of "Green Peace," given by its mistress, the mother of the brilliant children, Mrs. Julia Ward Howe. The records of the doings and sayings, the pranks and mischief of these irrepressible and original little folks are as charming as they are amusing. It is a sweet, wholesome book, rippling with fun and in the happiest spirit. It is illustrated with a picture of the beloved home and portraits of Dr. Howe, Mrs. Howe at different ages, and three of the daughters, Julia Romana, Laura, and Maud.
