What's the Point of Parenting? How to Turn your Child into a Responsible Adult
What’s the Point of Parenting? How to turn your Child into a Responsible Adult is designed to help today’s busy parents teach the specific skills children need in order to become successful adults in a world that is vastly different from that of their parents. This book lays out all the things children need to learn before they enter the real world. As a teacher, Sherry Rhodes understands the value of having a curriculum guide—a thorough explanation of what to teach— and has formatted the first part of the book in a similar fashion for parents. Subjects include respect, attitude, consequences, ethics, social skills, finances, and education, among others. Backed by extensive research, Rhodes not only explains how to teach each subject, but also offers tips on convincing children that the topic is important to learn.
The second section of the book is what she calls the lesson plans; what to teach at every age from one to eighteen. This makes it easy for parents to quickly identify which skills to work on for each of their children.
This book is not about making children behave, although there is a chapter on how to use consequences to your advantage. It’s more about training children to be independent, productive, responsible young adults.
What’s the Point of Parenting? is a comprehensive reference manual for all parents in an easy-to-read, easy-to-use format.
