What The Children Saw
What The Children Saw, a skit, short story and song kit derived from the musical, The Passion According to Kids is designed as a stand-alone performance and teaching vehicle for Lent. The skit, a 5 minute drama permits us to witness the crucifixion of Jesus through the eyes of two adolescents, a Jewish girl and a Roman boy whose father just happens to be the Roman Centurion in charge of the terrible event. The drama then deals with their horrified reactions. The story however, fleshes out these two characters and lets the reader learn what occurred a few days afterwards when they meet again in the marketplace. Finally, the song, “The Clouds Wept Tears of Rain,” is a simple minor key round which includes teaching ideas for musical accompaniment, instructions for interpretation via American Sign Language and an opportunity to unite children and adults in a simple but effective and inclusive multi-media activity or performance project.
