Overview

"What I have written, I have written!"

WHEN HE REACHES MATURITY, even a pagan ruler like Pontius Pilate finds that life has become inescapable. He has done enough and said enough and has molded himself into a pattern that is the mold for the rest of his life. He may be able to shape it, but only in a limited way.

Tiberius was the emperor, and Pontius Pilate carried out the instructions of Tiberius. Tiberius certainly had the power of life and death over Pontius Pilate. But there is still a very real sense in which Pilate wasn't willing to give up his dictatorial powers over everyone in his realm.

Since he proclaimed Jesus to be the "King of the Jews," so let it be said, so let it be done. Pilate's words could not be changed. To some degree this is true of all of us. We can only marginally change the absolutes of life. God, and God alone, has the last say in all the major and minor details of His providence.

Man invariably thinks that he is a free moral agent able to do absolutely as he chooses. But ultimately, he is only as free as God allows.

About the Author

BILL GLASS was one of the most outstanding football players in the NFL. He was a unanimous All-American at Baylor University and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. After one year in Canadian football, he enjoyed an eleven-year NFL career with the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection. During his time with the Browns, which included the 1964 championship season, Bill spent his off-seasons studying for a degree in theology at Southwestern Seminary.

After hanging up his jersey, Glass founded the Bill Glass Ministries in 1969, at the urging of his close friend Billy Graham. He has been in prison ministry for sixty years and has been conducting city-wide crusades for over fifty. Today, through his program Bill Glass Behind the Walls, Bill has shared the Word of God with thousands of inmates and is the founder and leader of one of the world’s oldest and largest prison ministries, with 35,000 volunteer participants.

Bill is the author of thirteen books.

Bill has three grown children – Billy, Bobby, and Mindy – and eight grandchildren. They live near Dallas, Texas.
