Vita Jiménez is a poet, children's book author, and editor. She is delighted and humbled by the fact that for 30 years she has made her living by writing and editing children's books. She lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and two daughters.
Mark Oblinger is an award-winning songwriter, composer, producer, and performer. He cowrote and produced the Grammy-nominated children’s jazz symphony JumpinJazz Kids: A Swinging Jungle Tale and has won five Heartland Emmy Awards for his work as a composer/producer for the PBS children’s show The Big Green Rabbit and the short films Yesterday’s Zoo and The Sea I See. Topics such as making new friends, being a respectful partner, celebrating individuality, and recognizing and accepting differences among peers are the main themes explored. Cartoonish and often exuberant illustrations effectively clarify the text and offer visual clues for primary aged readers. Children with different abilities are shown in the school-set artwork. The catchiness of the rhymes will make this most effective with young students in a classroom setting. VERDICT Consider for medium to large school libraries.
