Overview

A story of murder and betrayal, What Evil Lurks is set in a small southwestern Florida city in the early days of 1960. On Valentine’s Day the citizens of Comfrey are stunned by two murders and a suicide. Tyson Harte, the seventy-year editor of the The Gazette has his doubts it is just a case of jealousy and revenge by a angry wife, who kills herself out of remorse. When one of his reporters discovers criminal connections to a New York company with plans for a resort, he believes he has found a motive for murder. As Hart pursues his investigation he strains relationships with colleagues and friends alike. When his refusal to back off the investigation puts his business and his wife in jeopardy, he comes to question his life-long commitment to truth over love. In the end old animosities are put aside to make a daring rescue in the swamps of the Everglades.
