Overview

This book is the memoir of a young physician who is assigned to a remote village in Iran. With limited resources available to him he manages to do his best.

He faces many adventures during his tenure. Understanding the culture of the indigenous was the most challenging of all.

He did most of his calls on horseback since the roads were impassable for cars.

He was threatened by wild animals while attending his calls.

In the end he was pleased that he did his best to serve a very deprived indigenous population.

About the Author

Dr. Maany is currently a practicing psychiatrist.

He was born in Tehran, Iran. After finishing his medical school at the Tehran university School of Medicine, he served 2 years in a remote part of Iran where the transportation was with horse back riding and very limited resources available to him.

He was determined to practice a good medicine, because this was the only opportunity for him to serve his people before coming to the US for his training. The population he served had never had access to medical care before, except a short exposure by physician who served before him. The patients were demanding and not observing their appointments. They came anytime they desired and expected full service at any time of the day or night. The book is about how Dr. Maany managed to deal with these demands though sometimes he was on the brink of burning out and giving up.
