About the Author

Katerina Arzhayev came to the United States as a three year old, immigrating from Russia with her family. At five years old, she started first grade. The challenges of being an immigrant, not knowing how to fit in, remain a core memory. In 2020, she and her husband founded a nonprofit that allowed them to go back to their South Siberian roots and get involved in that community. Girls Education Nation was born to provide opportunities through education to the women and girls of Minusinsk and Abakan who otherwise would face financial barriers.
